One of the most powerful of human emotions is fear. The very word conjures negative feelings and brings to mind all the things we are fearful of. While this negative fear is a powerful motivator to more away from what we’re afraid of, it is never liberating – we are always tied back to our fears.

There is, however, a positive side to fear. It is referred to in the Bible as “the fear of the Lord”. It is respectful fear. You can change negative fears into positive ones simply by changing your perception of what you’re afraid of.

If you are afraid of spiders, as I am, you can begin to adopt an attitude of respect for them. Get a book and read about them. Go to the Butterfly Pavilion in Denver and hold Rosie the tarantula. If you’re afraid of losing something extremely special to you, use your fear as a catalyst to make necessary changes in your life to hold on to it!

Dwelling on your fears will only bring that which you are afraid of to you that much more quickly. Respect your fears and grow through them.

Lifestyle Interference results from poor health habits such as overeating, poor nutrition, excessive drinking, taking prescription or non-prescription drugs, or sitting too much. Environmental Interference can be caused by toxicity from air, food, water, or chemicals, as well as accidents or natural disasters. All three types of interference can cause pressure in your spine and nervous system and affect your health on every level.

Rather than releasing the healing power within them, too many people treat their symptoms with over the counter and prescription drugs while the underlying cause, the interference, remains in their system and accumulates damage for decades. This has short and long term consequences.

The great thing is that as long as you are alive and breathing, and there is life flowing over your nervous system, this healing power stays within you, just waiting for you to get the interference out of the way. Style and Grace or Applesauce on your Face?


We are all born with the innate capacity to live an active, healthy quality of life for 80, 90 or 100 years and beyond.  Why do some reach 100 with style and grace, while others die at 70 with applesauce on their face?  Is it bad genes or bad luck? Or is there more at play?

So if I exercise and eat well, I will enjoy a great quality of life and maximize my innate potential, right?  Regular exercise, both endurance and strength training, as well as a healthy, balanced diet are vitally important to good health and longevity.  Where this plan unravels, however, is in the health of the system that controls and coordinates every cell, tissue, organ and function of your body

Simple, but not easy

When it comes to changing the direction your health is headed, most of the changes needed are very simple.  This does not necessarily mean they are easy to make.  Quitting smoking, for example, is a very simple change.  Because of the addiction to nicotine, however, quitting smoking is not at all easy.  Choosing to drink bottled water instead of Pepsi or Diet Dr. Pepper is a simple change, but for some, it is incredibly difficult.

So here’s my recommendation:  Make a list of all the bad habits you have (all the not so good things you put in your mouth, your lack of regular exercise, your negative attitude toward some others in your life), then make a list of 3 substitutes you can make for EACH of your bad habits.  For example – if I normally eat a Snickers bar every morning at 10:30 to get me through till lunch, I could make substitutions of 1. an apple 2. a bowl of rice and vegetables or 3. a handful of raw almonds (although almonds would make a much better snack at 4:30pm due to their protein and fat content).  Substituting a glass of water for one of your regular cups of coffee, making a commitment to always smile at the coworker who gets under your skin the most and who you would like to see fall off the top of the office building.  Substituting an evening walk or bike ride for sitting on the couch to “relax” after dinner.

Don’t try and address all your bad habits at once.  Pick one a week and commit the week to working on “that one”.  Don’t sweat the small stuff and in the end, it’s ALL SMALL STUFF!

Ten Things…

Here is a tool I have used with several of my patients to change their mental outlook for the better.  Take 20 minutes, more or less, and write two lists:

List #1 are the TEN things in your life you are MOST GRATEFUL for (you can’t list your spouse and all your kids as separate entries…thats cheating).  This is a very serious list, so treat it that way!

List #2 are the TEN things, if you had all the free time in the world to do them and money was not object, you would most like to do.  These can be hobbies, vacations to exotic destinations, or sitting on your back porch sipping iced tea.

Here is the key to this exercise: READ BOTH LISTS 3 TIMES A DAY!  You will quickly find that when you read and focus on the first list regularly, things on the second list will start to happen.  Don’t ask me how…just trust me.  All this will cost you is 5 minutes, three times a day. (and two pieces of paper)

This might be hard to stomach…

They now have “discovered” the obesity gene, the breast cancer gene, the ADHD gene, diabetes gene, heart disease gene and even a “hangover gene” that predisposes individuals to the symptoms of hangover following a night of hard drinking.


It’s no ones fault but your own.  I may not make any friends with that comment, but the truth is not always easy to take.  It’s a toxic lifestyle that leads to disease!  It’s white sugar, white flour, white milk, medications, sitting on your rear, negative thinking and all the other crap we do to ourselves that makes us sick. 

It’s time we realize the government, drug companies and others involved in “modern” health care have gone completely off course and the only way off this sinking ship is to take your health into your own hands!
